6 reasons why you should make ActivKids a key partner this year

There are many great reasons why ActivKids could be an important part of your plans in 2012 when it comes to inspiring children and families to be more active. But here are our top 6 reasons why you should choose ActivKids when it comes to helping make a difference to children’s and family’s health:

1. Children’s performance in the classroom could be affected by how physically active they are

A Dutch review of previous studies into links between children’s physical activity levels and how well they perform in the classroom has found strong evidence of a link between exercise and academic performance (source: ActivKids programmes focus on physical activity and fitness for children aged 4 to 11 years, both in and out of school time.

2. Obesity linked to poor mother-toddler bond

The results of a study at Ohio State University suggest that toddlers, when coping with stress, may begin to use food as a source of comfort in place of turning to their mothers (source: The fantastic ActivTots programme designed for toddlers actively encourages the engagement of toddlers and parents/grown ups

3. OFSTED outcomes for children’s centres

The ActivTots programme delivered by ActivKids has been mapped against the outcomes for families set by OFSTED, which was released in September 2011. The programme can help children’s centres achieve 50% of ‘being healthy’ objectives, as well as other objectives in ‘staying safe’, ‘enjoying and achieving’ and ‘making a positive contribution’. ActivTots programmes also help centres in good provision, including services, activities and opportunities; learning and development, value for money, safeguarding, partnerships and user engagement

4. Obesity levels rising in children aged 10 and 11 years

NHS figures for the past year show 19% of children in year 6 were classed as obese, compared with 18.7% the previous year (source: These results were highlighted by the National Child Measurement Programme. ActivKids have developed a range of workshops and programmes for schools to train teachers and teaching staff to deliver fitness based classes to improve children’s confidence in participation in physical activity and PE

5. ActivKids online shop is now LIVE!

The ActivKids online shop provides content manuals and activity kits for schools, children’s centres and nurseries to purchase to inspire physical activity and fitness classes. There are also the ActivFamilies kits that are available for families to use at home, in the garden or in the park

6. 2012 – The London Olympics

What a year for sport, headlined by the London Olympic Games. The opportunity to inspire children and families is NOW, with more people in the UK than ever before being exposed to Olympic projects and events in the next 12 months. ActivKids will be running its Olympic programme in schools during the summer and autumn terms to help children feel part of the greatest sporting event in the world
