Registration

The principle role of this time is to register the children on arrival. Parents dropping off children to venues outside of school, i.e. sports centre venues, will be expected to sign children in. Coaches’ will also have a register. The purpose of the introduction is to bring all the children together, seated with the coach, and explain what will be done during the session to follow.
The primary roles of the coach during this time are to take the register, to raise awareness of health and safety and to make the children feel as comfortable as possible.

Warm Up

The warm up for all age groups will be a combination of pulse raising activities (e.g. tag games, general aerobics) and stretching. The aim is to prepare the children for the physical activities that they will be doing, and reducing the risk of injuries. For the youngest children, the main emphasis of the warm up is ‘fun’ and ‘getting the kids going’. For the older children, more emphasis is placed on educating by using the correct names for the exercises.
The primary roles of the coach during this time are to give clear and concise instructions, and to motivate and encourage the children.

1st Game

The 1st game is generally dedicated to a tag game or short sharp running activity.
The primary roles of the coaching during this time are to give clear and concise instructions, and encourage and praise the children individually to raise confidence, motivation and self-esteem.

Fitness Phase

This time is used for fitness skills, move cube or any other fitness based games/activities.
The primary roles of the coaching during this time are to give clear and concise instructions, and encourage and praise the children individually to raise confidence, motivation and self esteem.

Break

Children will require a break to take on water and ‘have a breather’. This will also give the coach the opportunity to ask children for feedback on previous activities, allow the children to ask any questions, and for the children to use the toilet.

2nd Game/Activity

Following the break, time is dedicated to an activity that is associated with the stage reached in the programme, i.e. individual, pairs, small groups, etc.
The primary roles of the coaching during this time are to give clear and concise instructions, and encourage and praise the children individually to raise confidence, motivation and self-esteem.

Cool Down

After approximately 40 minutes of physical activity, it is necessary to cool down the body’s core temperature and to reduce the heart rate. This is done through reversing the warm up process, e.g. moving from intense activities to less active.
The primary roles of the coach during this time are to give clear and concise instructions, and to calm down the children.
